The DotCIO staff has seen a significant number of additions over the past few months. Here are some of the latest employees to join the DotCIO team.
Jeffrey G. Miner joined the Rensselaer community on November 1 as the new Director of Integrated Administrative Computing Solutions (IACS) within DotCIO after retiring from Lucent Technologies earlier this year. Although he's a new employee here at Rensselaer, Jeff is not new to the university. In addition to being a 1978 graduage with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Jeff has been active on campus since 1985 as a BS/MS/MBA recruiter and member of the AT&T and Lucent campus teams. He was also one of the early advisors to the interdisciplinary curricumlum in Information Technology. During his career at Bell Labs, AT&T, and Lucent, Jeff held positions in applied research, product development, business management, information technology, and program management. His formal education includes a Master's degree in Computer Science from Stevens Institute of Technology, and an Associate's degree in Engineering Science from Hudson Valley Community College. Sandi Redemann-Butcher was hired as the department's Financial Manager.
Integrated Administrative Computing Solutions welcomes Dave Goldschmidt, who recently joined the IACS staff as the department's newest Business Systems Analyst. But he's no stranger to campus, having been here since 1990, receiving his Bachelor's degree in 1994, and his Master's degree in 1998, both in Computer Science. He's currently working on his Computer Science PhD, and hopes that he'll finish up by 2004. Dave, who worked at PSInet, Inc. in the Rensselaer Tech Park from 1998 to early 2001, was hired here at RPI last June, and briefly worked for the department of Communication and Collaboration Technologies before being hired in IACS in October.
IACS also welcomes Customer Support Analyst Elaine Jaeger, who joined the department on October 27. Prior to coming to Rensselaer, Elaine, who holds an Associates degree in Micro-Computer Management from Bryant & Stratton Business School, worked at Excelsior College for over three years as a Technical Assistant, providing technical support to the Assessment Unit's databases.
Raj Kahlon, a Data Warehouse Architect for IACS, received his Master's degree in Business Administration, with majors in Information Systems, from his native India. Prior to coming to Albany and RPI, Raj worked in the corporate sector, doing database administration and performance tuning with New Jersey's P & O Nedlloyd. Before that, he worked with a telecommunications software billing company, Kingston SCL (India) Ltd., based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Welcome, Raj!
Sharon Marchaland has also recently joined the IACS staff as an Applications Analyst/Programmer, coming to the department from her previous position as a programmer with Rensselaer's Division of Institute Advancement. Sharon, who has also worked for Glens Falls Hospital and Gambro Healthcare, got her Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Siena College.
Jeff Stark joins IACS as the department's newest Business Systems Analyst. Jeff, who graduated from Siena College in 1985 with a Bachelor's degree in computer science, previously worked at SUNY's Research Foundation in the department of Information Services for 16 years, where he held various positions from developer to his final position of Data Warehouse team leader.
IT Operations is pleased to introduce Bob Murdock, who began working here at Rensselaer as the newest computer operator on October 23. Bob, who received a B.S. in Special Education from The College of Saint Rose and most recently received his Associate's degree in Computer Information Systems from the SUNY College of Technology at Delhi, was employed at Oxford Academy in Oxford, NY as a Special Education Teacher prior to coming to Rensselaer. Please join us in making Bob feel welcome!
The Libraries welcome their new Science Librarian, Connie Fritz, who comes to Rensselaer from Southern Vermont College, where she previously worked as a reference librarian. Connie, who has a strong background in chemistry, biology and the health sciences, and in library instruction, can be contacted in her office in 337C Folsom Library, by phone at ext. 8324, and via electronic mail at fritzc@rpi.edu.
Robert Mayo joined the Libraries on Monday, December 3, in the position of Administrative Librarian. His responsibilites include financial management, personnel, facilities, and project management. Bob received his MLS degree from SUNY Geneseo, a BA from SUNY Plattsburgh, and an AAS from the College of Aeronautics in Flushing, New York. His early career was at the H. W. Wilson Publishing Co, in the Bronx, as an editor for the Bibiliographic Index. In 1976, he started working for IBM in various roles, including Cost Engineer, Program Manager, and Senior Marketing Manager. Before coming to Rensselaer, Bob also worked at InfoEd, Inc., an Albany-based company that licenses software such as "SPIN," the Libraries' grants database and alerting service.
Also relatively new to the Library staff is Sue Harris, who moved to Folsom Administration from her previous position in Student Records and Financial Services in the Troy Building, where she worked for over three years. Prior to coming to Rensselaer, Sue worked as Assistant to the Facilities Manager at MapInfo in the Rensselaer Tech Park.
The Libraries' staff is also pleased to welcome Kyla E. Collings as the Operations Coordinator for the Architecture Library. Kyla, who joined the staff on December 10, comes to us with three years' experience as Operations Assistant for General Electric's Capital Modular Space in Clifton Park, also served as an Assistant Production Specialist for Clear Venture Enterprises, a Troy-based multimedia startup company. Kyla has studied at Keene State College in New Hampshire and worked as an office assistant in their Graduate Studies and Program Development Office, and has also pursued her education at Salve Regina University and the Rhode Island School of Design. Please join us in making Kyla feel welcome!
The Libraries also welcome new Science Librarian Evelyn "Connie" Powell, who started working here at Rensselaer on December 10. As a graduate of three institutions, Connie has a diverse educational background, having received her Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Cornell (New York State College of Agriculture), an M. Ed. in cell physiology and education from Utah State University, and a Master of Library Science degree in science librarianship from SUNY Geneseo.
Prior to coming to Rensselaer, Connie worked for five years at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio as a medical librarian, where she had an opportunity to teach medical database searching at the National Library of Medicine Eastern Region for one year. For the past eleven years, she has served as the biochemistry/chemistry librarian at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. Please join us in welcoming Connie to campus!
