Libraries Add Four New Databases
The Rensselaer Libraries have recently added four new databases to their
collection:
Lawtel EU
Researching EU law and keeping up to date with the latest EU developments, and
the effect these have on domestic law, can be a complex and lengthy process.
Lawtel EU offers you instant access to every type of EU document from all
the official sources in one place, in a digestible and easily searchable
format. With every EU document containing direct hypertext links to related
EU and UK documents, Lawtel EU is the only service that actually puts EU law
into context for you. Included in the Lawtel site are:
- Daily updates of all the latest EU legal developments.
- Daily reports of all cases heard by the ECJ (Court of Justice of the
European Communities) and CFI (Court of First Instance).
- Twenty-four hour updates of all EU adopted and proposed legislation.
- An article index with abstracts from the leading general and specialist
law journals.
Merger decisions, Commission reports, press releases, and notices, all
relating to EU law, are also provided. While most of the data in Lawtel EU
is available free of charge, Lawtel EU does include some data that is
available only for a fee. This data is indicated as such in the database.

CountryWatch
CountryWatch providing political, economic and business information, daily
news, and data for 191 countries. The database is comprised of four
components:
- CountryReviews, which provides comprehensive reports for 191
countries. For each country, a 50 to 100 page report provides demographic,
historical, political, economic, business and environmental background, as
well as contemporary issues facing the country. Reviews are updated dynamically
on the website whenever major events, such as a change in government, occur
in a country.
- CountryWire serves as a companion to CountryWatch, and provides
wire service information for each of the 191 CountryReviews. News coverage
is comprehensive, coming from 12 international news services with a 12-month
archive in a searchable database containing 180,000 stories. This database
is updated daily.
- CountryWatch Data, an on-line international database containing
more than 230 times series or cross-sectional data series spanning
socio-demographic, macroeconomic, economic sector, environmental and cultural
information, allows for convenient downloading and inter-country
cross-tabulating of the numeric data representing key aspects of the world's
countries. Data is available either in a web or comma delimited format. The
database contains FIPS codes to facilitate its use with GIS mapping software.
- CountryWatch Business Services offers more than 100 edited links
to the best-of-the-web sources of data on countries and their economies. This
includes convenient access to Country Commercial Guides providing detailed
information on regulations on investment, trade and project financing, and
access to Country Experts, an international consulting service offering
information search and in country consulting assistance on a per hour or per
engagement basis.

- To access CountryReviews, select a country from the pull-down menu.

Business Source Premier and Business Wire News from EBSCO Host
Among the many databases available from EBSCO on RensSearch, two of special
interest to management researchers are the Business Source Premier and the
Business Wire News. While Business Source Premier provides full text for
over 2,300 scholarly business journals covering management, economics, finance,
accounting, international business and much more, Business Wire News is a full
text newswire database that incorporates business wires from all over the world.

Hoover's Online Now Available on RensSearch
Hoover's Online delivers comprehensive company, industry, and market
intelligence. Joining the RensSearch databases, SEC and Worldscope from
Primark, and Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage, Hoover's offers company
information that includes:
- Profiles providing a complete company overview, as well as a summary of
significant developments in a company's history. Competitor and employee lists,
subsidiaries, news, and dozens of aggregated information are also included.
- Merger and acquisition information detailing what happened to firms that
merged, were acquired, or succumbed to market forces.
- Downloadable, printer-friendly company profiles for professional-looking
reports.
- Product, service and segment data for the products and services that
make the company.
- Lists of officers and board members, with ages, biographical sketches, and
officers' salaries, where available.
In addition to company information, financial information is also provided
and includes:
- Competitor data providing comparisons of the most publicly traded US
companies with their top three competitors, long with their industry and
market.
- Comparison data including dozens of financial ratios, per share data, and
growth rates to the industry and market levels.
- Detailed annual financials with up to three years of income statements,
balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Detailed quarterly financials with up to five quarters of income
statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Downloadable financials in Excel formats for easy charting, graphing, and
analysis.
- Historical financials with up to ten years of selected financial data,
including revenue, net income, number of employees, and per-share values
for dividends and book value.
- Market data providing current information on stock price and other
valuation measures, as well as many useful ratios such as price/sales,
price/cash flow, and return on assets.
Users will find the Hoover's interface easy to use. Advanced search techniques
let you target your search by industry, location, sales, growth rate, company
size, fiscal year end, and more. Seventeen search parameters in all are
available. While most of the data in Hoover's Online is available free of
charge, Hoover's does include some data that is available only for a fee. This
data is indicated as such in the database.
