Access to Electronic Periodicals: New and Improved!

With the help of a "dot com" that was started by a small group of librarians, the Libraries can now offer our users a list of all electronic journals, magazines and newsletters to which we have access through our numerous research databases. Serials Solutions, the brainchild of a librarian at the University of Washington, can provide a client library with a customized lists of all the titles to which that library has access, based on its database subscriptions.

Providing this type of access has been the goal of libraries since the advent of electronic full-text journals, but the solution has been elusive due to a number of factors, including the constantly-changing title lists of many of the databases, as well as the sheer number of staff hours necessary to create and update such access. But now, for a modest annual fee, the Libraries can now provide just such a list, and, in the near future, a search interface to that list. This new e-journal list, with over 11,000 titles, will replace the current list of about 1,200 titles that has been linked under Resources and Collections on RensSearch at the URL http://www.lib.rpi.edu/resources/ejournals/index.html.

Please note that not all electronic serials will be available in the easy-to-access format of such publishers as ProQuest Direct, Project Muse, and ScienceDirect. In some cases, the journal link will take you to a web page on which you must search for your specific article author and title. A brief on-line guide will be provided for these cases.

If you have any questions about this service, please contact a librarian by directing e-mail to lib-ref@rpi.edu.
