Use ssh or SecureCRT, not telnet, to Connect to RCS Remote Access Machines

Due to security concerns, incoming telnet connections from on-campus hosts will no longer be accepted on the RCS remote access machines as of the beginning of the Spring 2001 semester. As a result, PC users should now use SecureCRT, and UNIX users should use ssh to connect to the remote access machines.

SecureCRT is pre-installed on the IBM laptops distributed to the classes of 2003 and 2004, and is also installed on all CIS-maintained public PCs. Other PC users can purchase SecureCRT by following the instructions found at http://www.rpi.edu/dept/cis/software/SecureCRT/public_html/Install.html.

ssh is installed on all CIS-maintained UNIX workstations. For more information about ssh, please refer to the URL http://www.rpi.edu/Computing/New/Software/ssh.html.

If you have further questions about using SecureCRT or ssh, contact the consultants at the ACS Help Desk locations, or direct electronic mail to consult@rpi.edu.
