The CIS staff has seen a number of changes over the past few months.
On October 16, Rensselaer Computer Repair was pleased to include another technical professional to the RCR team, when it welcomed Mary Cooper as the group's newest Computer Repair Specialist. Mary, who comes to Rensselaer with an extensive background in Apple computer technology among her many technical proficiencies, was previously employed by Novaworks Computer Systems in Manhattan and Vassar College. Welcome, Mary!
Network Support Services is also pleased to welcome David Champagne, who joined Operations as the group's newest Computer Operator on October 23. David, who received his Bachelor's Degree in English Literature from SUNY Albany in 1990, also received his Associate's Degree in Computer Information Systems at Hudson Valley Community College last month. Please join us in making David feel welcome!
Academic Computing Services is also happy to recognize several changes within the department. On November 13, Theresa Mahoney was promoted from her previous position of PC Support Analyst to that of System Administrator. In the few short years that she's been here, Theresa has proved to be an invaluable member of ACS' Educational Technology team, and we all wish her the very best as she takes on her new responsibilities within the group.
ACS would also like to welcome Suzanne Olson, who joined the group on November 15 as its second System Administrator. Suzanne, who received her Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Grove City College in Pennsylvania, brings more than 13 years' worth of experience to Rensselaer with her, having worked most recently as a higher-level workstation analyst for Kaiser Permanente in Latham. Please join us in welcoming Suzanne to campus!
Libraries and Information Services welcomes new Coordinator of Technical Services D. Ellen Bonner, who begins her career at Rensselaer with more than eighteen years of Technical Services librarianship experience, most recently as a Cataloger and Bibliographic Records Specialist at YBP Library Services, and as a Customer Sales Consultant at Innovative Interfaces Inc. (III), the Libraries' system vendor. D's familiarity with trends, standards, and issues in acquisitions, library systems, cataloging, and electronic services should prove to be an important asset to the Libraries' Technical Services Unit, as well as to the Libraries' Management Team. Welcome, D!
The Libraries are also proud to announce that Donna Hopkins has joined the staff as its newest Engineering Librarian. Donna, who was most recently the Engineering/Patent and Trademark Librarian at Louisiana State University, has also worked at the Science, Industry and Business Library, as the Patent and Trademark Librarian at one of New York Public's Research Libraries, and as a Reference Librarian at Cleveland State University. Her extensive professional experience includes working as an information specialist at BF Goodrich, as a quality control chemist at LyphoMed, and as a generic pharmaceutical manufacturer in suburban Chicago. Please join us in welcoming Donna to Rensselaer! You can reach her by phoning ext. 8314, or by directing e-mail to hopkind@rpi.edu.
At the same time that the Libraries welcome both D and Donna, they are sorry to bid adieu to Assistant Director for Administrative Services Chris Algee. Chris, who provided Rensselaer with seventeen years of dedicated service, has accepted the position of Assistant Director of the Capital District Library Council, one of eight regional councils in New York State chartered to support and serve multi-type libraries in the communities they serve. We will certainly miss Chris, but we hope that you will join us in wishing her all the very best as she takes on this exciting new role.
