For those of you who aren't familiar with eBooks, they're simply electronic versions of printed books! They have the same information, are enriched with photos and illustrations, and can be viewed on-line from any computer connected to the Internet. What's more, the Rensselaer Libraries are pleased to announce that they now offer access to eBooks via two vendors: netLibrary and ITKnowledge.
netLibrary's technology lets you search not only by titles, authors, and keywords, but by entire pieces of text of any eBook so that you can instantly pinpoint the exact information you need. You can view netLibrary eBooks free for 15 minutes for quick reference, or borrow and read them at your leisure. (Borrowing books requires setting up a personal profile with netLibrary.)
Users may also find it helpful to know that the Rensselaer Libraries have access to the Nylink netLibrary Shared Collection, which includes books in many subject areas; for more information, please refer to the URL http://nylink.suny.edu/coop/netlist.htm. The Computer Science and Internet subject area is notably rich; please see the URL http://nylink.suny.edu/coop/netcol/ComScInt.htm.
To connect to netLibrary, enter the URL http://www.netlibrary.com in the Address or Location field at the top of your browser window.
ITKnowledge, a product from EarthWeb, the leading business portal for the global IT industry, offers an interface which allows you to search, browse and read thousands of full text publications from the leading publishers in the IT industry. You can access books, tutorials, source code, and guides to train yourself on today's problems, as well as learn more about tomorrow's technologies.
