Library Announces SciFinder Scholar 2000 Upgrade

CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society, has released SciFinder Scholar 2000, the latest upgrade to this award-winning desktop research tool designed especially for use by students and faculty to easily access the information in the CAS databases. With no special training needed, you can explore the world's most comprehensive collection of published scientific research through a variety of ways--by author name, research topic, substance identifier, chemical structure, or chemical reaction. Simply point and click to retrieve information on more than 27 million substances in the CAS Registry file.

With this upgrade you can:

• Simplify your research by scanning the contents of many popular scientific journals.

• Cross-search MEDLINE in conjunction with CAplus to widen your access to the published scientific literature. OLDMEDLINE, a subset of MEDLINE, includes nearly one million records. Cross-searching is the default mode, but it can be deselected at the start of a search session.

• See a list of bibliographic citations of journal article references in your answer sets. Hyperlinks connect these publications with their corresponding references in CAplus or MEDLINE.

• Explore and refine by company name. This new feature saves you time by making use of a synonym dictionary to explore all variations of the company name of interest.

• Explore by functional groups in reactions; this is a faster, more efficient way to search the CAS CASREACT database, a reaction database with over 195,000 references to the journal and patent literature.

SciFinder Scholar 2.0 Discontinued

As a follow-up regarding the recent SciFinder 2000 upgrade, support for version 2.0 of SciFinder Scholar was discontinued as of December 31, and users should upgrade to SciFinder Scholar 2000. Download links are available at the URL http://www.lib.rpi.edu/resources/databases/getscifinder.html.
