LaTeX for Your PC

LaTeX for Your PC

If you would like to run TeX/LaTeX on your PC or laptop, Acadmic Computing Services (ACS) can provide you with a CD-ROM that contains ready-to-run systems for Windows 9x/NT, as well as most types of UNIX.

The CD -- which contains all the necessary programs to edit, run, preview and print TeX and LaTeX files, as well as a huge collection of LaTeX packages and many supplementary programs -- is the result of collaboration between the U.S. TeX Users Group (TUG) and the TeX user groups of many other countries, including France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. For more information on the CD, please refer to the URL http://www.tug.org/texlive/.

Users should note that the installation process takes at least an hour, and requires 300-500 MB of disk space.

If you are interested in having a copy of this CD, along with installation instructions prepared by ACS, contact Harriet Borton by directing electronic mail to bortonh@rpi.edu.

ACS will be offering a short course in LaTeX next month. See the article "ACS to Offer Short Courses," also in this issue of The Kiosk, for more information.
