Business and Economics Databases Offer Varied Information

Business and economics researchers rely on varied information sources that include the full text of journals and newspapers, financial and statistical data, and directory information, and Rensselaer's Libraries subscribe to a growing number of databases that provide access to all of these information areas. While some of the databases offer only one type of information, others provide access to a wider variety.

So, to help you identify the appropriate database(s) for your research, the Libraries have a web page located at the following URL:

	http://www.rpi.edu/library/resources/databases/business.html

This web page lists business and economics databases by the type of information provided. You can access databases directly from this web page, with instructions for many of the files available at:

A-to-Z Look Up Available for Business and Economics Topics

In addition to the many business and economics databases to which Rensselaer Libraries subscribe, there is a growing number of high quality web sites in the areas of business and economics, available at no charge. A significant number of print and CD-ROM sources also continue to be essential for research. For a topic such as market share or economic indicators, a researcher may be best served by consulting all three types of information: subscription databases, free web sites, and print and CD-ROM sources.

The Business & Economics Desktop References web page, located at the URL http://www.rpi.edu/library/resources/references/business/bande.html, brings together these different sources under one web page. The opening web page of Desktop References is an A-to-Z lookup of topics such as company histories, e-commerce, or the World Bank. Each topic is a hypertext link. A link can lead to an outside web site or to a web page that lists resources, both printed and web-based. The call number and the library location accompany each print and CD-ROM source; a hypertext link is included for each web site. To access the Business & Economics Desktop References:

(1) Click on Desktop References under Resources from the RensSearch home page.

(2) Click on Business & Economics from the Desktop References page.
