EZ-Snapshot Service Announced

EZ-Snapshot Service Announced

Over the summer, members of CIS have been preparing a new file storage backup service, known as EZ-Snapshot, which provides file saving and restoring capabilities for individuals' and departments' campus desktop computers, laptops, and CUSSP UNIX systems.

EZ-Snapshot replaces the EZ-Backup service, which is no longer available. Current EZ-Backup clients must sign up for EZ-Snapshot and install the software in order to retain their existing backup file storage, which will continue to perform incremental backups, using the existing file storage. EZ-Snapshot subscriptions will expire annually each September, so, prior to that month, users will have the opportunity to resubscribe for the upcoming year.

Any member of the Rensselaer community can subscribe to this service, with each person receiving an 8GB storage allocation at no cost. (This 8 GB free allocation can also apply to multiple clients registered by an individual.) If a user requires more than 8GB of storage, they will be billed at an annual cost of $25 per additional 2GB allocation.

An alternative billing option is available to Rensselaer departments. Any department can register multiple clients, and the department will be billed for the total usage. The cost of storage with this billing option is $125 for 50GB of storage. If a department exceeds its current allocation, it will be billed for an additional 50GB allocation at the same price of $125.

The billing for these allocations will occur annually. Each September, at the end of the subscription period, individual clients and departments will be billed based on the storage usage at that time, after resubscribing.
