Windows 2000 and Dial-up PPP Connections
Follow these instructions to setup your PC to use a modem
to connect to Rensselaer's modem pool.

First, transfer (using binary mode, if applicable) the file
/dept/arc/pc.software/dialup/xyp-ppp.scp
to the C:\WINT\System32\ras\ directory on your PC.
- Go to ``Start"
``Settings"
``Networking and Dial-up Connections".
- Double click on ``Make New Connection".
- Click ``Next".
- Select ``Dial-up to the Internet"
and click ``Next".
- Select ``I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or
I want to connect through a local area network (LAN)". Click ``Next".
- Select ``I connect through a phone line and a modem." Click
``Next".
- Enter the phone number. Click ``Next".
- Enter your RCS userID and Password. Click ``Next".
- Enter ``Connection to phonenumber" for Connection name
and click ``Next".
- When asked ``Do you want to set up an Internet mail account
now?", select ``No".
- Make sure to uncheck ``To connect to the Internet
immediately, select this box and then click Finish". Click Finish.
- Click once on ``Connection to phonenumber" and then go to File
Properties.
- Select the ``Networking" tab.
- Check the ``Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" box and then click
``Settings".
- Select the ``Security" tab at the top of the windows and then
check ``Run script". Using the ``Browse" button, select the xyp-ppp.scp
file. Click ``OK".
- Select the ``Networking" tab and click ``Properties".
- Make sure ``Obtain an IP address automatically" and ``Obtain
DNS server address automatically" are checked. Click ``Advanced".
You must have changed the password for your RCS account at least once.
Each time you want to connect to RCS:
- Go to ``Start"
``Settings"
``Networking and Dial-up Connections".
- Double click ``Connection to phonenumber".
- Enter your RCS userID and Password and click ``Dial".
