Transferring Your Files

There are many ways to transfer your files to RCS.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) enables you to transfer files between your personal computer and RCS. If you need instructions for using FTP, please refer to Memo RPI.117, Transferring Files Using FTP in UNIX or Quick Study #25, Transferring Files in RCS UNIX Using ftp You will need to refer to your software documentation for instructions on downloading.

If you are using SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol), you can use a local FTP client on your personal computer to download directly from any site to your computer or upload to RCS. Please refer to your own software for instructions.

You can also bring DOS or UNIX files stored on disk to campus and use them in the disk drives in RCS Sun and RS/6000 workstations (although you need to use a program like mtools to do so with DOS disks). You can also use packages like Fetch on Macintosh computers to transfer files to RCS. Please see the consultants in the VCC Help Desk for help on how to do this.
