Unauthenticated Access

The RCS server also allows unauthenticated access. If someone connects using the ID ``anonymous," and their userid as the password, they have access to certain RCS directories and files that have been specifically permitted for anonymous FTP. After logging on, users see information about using this service, which includes a list of directories under /dept space provided specifically for unauthenticated users. To see a list of directories provided by individuals, users must download the README file. Unauthenticated users are restricted to these specifically permitted directories; they may not browse through the RCS directory tree.

Note that there is no single directory that holds the public information, nor is there a public world-writeable area.
