Introduction

This memo describes how to use FTP, the File Transfer Protocol utility, from an RCS workstation.

FTP allows you to transfer files between various host computers. You can use FTP in two ways: to transfer files between two systems on which you have accounts (authenticated FTP), and to transfer files to your account from another host where you do not have an account (unauthenticated or ``anonymous" FTP).

This memo contains instructions for using FTP from RCS, a sample terminal session, and a list of frequently-used FTP commands. (For a complete list of FTP commands, please refer to the FTP_commands files located in the RCS directory /campus/doc/acs.memos; you may print the .dvi file using the dvips command, or use an editor to view the .txt file on-line.)
