MATLAB is an interactive, matrix-based system used for scientific and engineering calculations, and is available for a number of platforms, including PCs, IBM RS/6000s, SGIs, SUNs, and Macintosh computers.
MATLAB makes use of a number of optional computational and processing "toolboxes," including the following:
The easiest way to start up the MATLAB package is to position the mouse cursor over the Matlab: Numerical Analysis item in the RCS Applications menu on the screen, and click the left mouse button on this menu item. If you have selected it successfully, it should briefly appear highlighted in a black rectangle.
After a moment, a separate UNIX-style window, with "Matlab" appearing in the titlebar, should appear on the screen. The MathWorks header should appear at the very top center of this window, followed by two lines of commands to get you started, and a double chevron ( >> ) prompt, which is where you enter your MATLAB commands.
For more information on using MATLAB, refer to the documentation listed below, as well as the Tips and Hints section.
The following MATLAB users' manual and reference guides are available on reserve at the Folsom Library, and via the ACS Help Desk in the VCC and the CII:
Manuals are also available for the following MATLAB toolboxes:
