MATLAB Scalar Functions

Certain MATLAB functions operate essentially on scalars, but operate element-wise when applied to a matrix. The most common such functions are

sin             asin            exp                     abs         round
cos             acos            log (natural log)       sqrt        floor
tan             atan            rem (remainder)         sign        ceil
