Changing Text Appearance in FrameMaker Documents

Just as FrameMaker's paragraph styles change the look of all the text in a particular paragraph, you can also change the look of one or more words or characters in a paragraph. For example, you can make text italic or bold.

To see what styles have been predefined for text appearance, open the character catalog by left-clicking on the odd-looking lowercase "f" that appears in the vertical strip of icons that runs along the upper-right side of the main FrameMaker document editor window.

To select a character style before you type, simply left-click on the style you wish to use in the character catalog, click inside the main document editor window to place your cursor, and start typing. For example, to make text italic, left-click on Emphasis in the character catalog.

You may also change text's appearance by selecting the Format menu and then selecting the Font, Size, and Style options.

To change existing text:

  1. First select the text you wish to change by positioning the mouse cursor at the beginning of the text you want to select, and then pressing and holding down the mouse button as you drag the cursor across the text.
  2. Release the mouse button at the end of the text you want to select.
  3. Left-click on the desired style in the character catalog. The text will change to the new style.

You may also use the File menu's Font, Size, and Style options to alter the appearance of text that has been selected as described above.
