Description

DataExplorer is a visual programming language, used for visualization of data sets. The package excels at creating complex images from static data sets, and in creating complex pipelines to extract and manipulate your original data set. DataExplorer has hard copy capabilities for outputing both grayscale and color Postscript files. For example, this graph is an example of DataExplorer output, showing a Gaussian distributuion over a plane.

DataExplorer is a visually-based object-oriented system which allows you to organize objects on a canvas and connect them to create a psuedo program that will manipulate data sets and create images.

Getting Started:

To access the DataExplorer package, simply enter the dx command from a UNIX prompt. A message similar to "Starting DX user interface" should appear in the window, and after a few moments, a large, blue DataExplorer Visual Program Editor window should appear on the screen. A number of menu options appear along the top of the window; additional Categories: and Annotation Tools: menus appear along the left side.

For more information on using DataExplorer, refer to the documentation listed below.

Documentation:

DataExplorer includes its own built-in online help, which you may access by left-clicking on the Help item in the upper right corner of the main DataExplorer window. A pop-up sub-menu, from which you may select a number of topics, should appear.

System manual pages, or "man pages" as they are more commonly known, also contain additional information about starting DataExplorer.
