Dialing up long distance
and using a credit card
or
calling card
If you want be able to dial a long distance number using a credit
card or a calling card, follow these steps:
- Find out what number is needed to get an outside line (for
example,
when in a hotel or location that has its own PBX, it might be 8;
on campus, the number is 9).
- Then, enter the service provider's number (such
as AT&T, Sprint, etc.) followed by the number to be dialed.
Do not include the
1 usually used to start a long distance call.
- Then, enter the number to be dialed (e.g., 5182441500) followed
by the pin or authentication number.
In the script, the trick is to use commas
between the numbers. The comma acts as a two second delay to
connections to be made. It may be necessary for the caller to actually
manually call the number the determine how many commas are needed.
The number gets entered into the phone number portion of the dial up
connection.
In the script, you must replace the present number (usually 2441500) with
8,,service number,,,,5182441500,,,,pin number
Using fake service and pin numbers, the example would look like
8,,2341567890,,,,5182441500,,,,1234567890
