To install the driver on a private PC, download it from the HP site. First select the appropriate operating system, then on the next page, be sure to click on the Adobe PS version. (Note: at this time there appears to be no Adobe PS version for WinXP, but the Win2K version should work.) In the next screen, read the paragraph describing the installation procedure, as it is slightly different for different versions of Windows. When ready, click on the Download Now button. Note the name of the .exe file and the location of the directory where you have downloaded it. In the next screen, click on the Download Now button.
Find the .exe file you just downloaded, and double-click to unzip it. From here on, the install procedure is different for different Windows platforms; for Win 9x and ME, procedure is as follows. The default location for the unzipped files is under c:\windows\temp\. From the Start menu, select Run, then Browse.... Go to the folder: c:\windows\temp\loc\bcdtmp\goldmaster\win95\english\ and double-click on setup.exe. This will start the setup installation wizard. Select network printer, and for the network path, type in the name \\sambasrv\vcplt (for vcplt) or \\sambasrv\vcpltg (for vcpltg). After the setup is finished, a new printer icon should appear in your printers folder, named "HP DesignJet 1055CM PS3". You can change the name to something appropriate, such as "vcplt" or "vcpltg".
Finally you should select the printer icon you just made, then select "Properties" from the File menu, and change the paper size to something appropriate for the plotter: "ARCH E - 36 x 44in" seems reasonable. Note that when you print from an application, you should also set your document to an appropriate size in the application. After you are sure the driver is working correctly, you can delete the unzipped directories and files from the "temp" folder (for Win9x and ME, the temp folder is c:\windows\temp), as all the necessary files will have been moved to c:\windows\system\.
