Downloading and Installing the Tektronix Phaser 600 plotter driver

If you are running Windows 2000, the driver should be already installed. You need only to run the Add Printer wizard and select the Tektronix Phaser 600 from the list. You need only to run the Add Printer wizard, type \\sambasrv\vcplt600 for the network name, and select the Tektronix Phaser 600 from the list of available printers.

For other Windows systems, you need to first download the printer from the Xerox Tektronix site. On the main page, fill in the blanks: for Printer Type, select Phaser 600, for Computer Platform, selet the appropriate operating system, and for "which files", select Drivers. Then click the Download button. On the next page, be sure to click on the Adobe PS version of the driver. Note the name of the .exe file and the location of the directory where you have downloaded it.

Find the .exe file you just downloaded, double-click to unzip it, and follow the on-screen instructions. (For Win9x, the default location for the unzipped files will be under c:\windows\win9xadb\).
To install the printer, run the Add Printer wizard in the Printers window. Select network printer, and for the network path, type in the name \\sambasrv\vcplt600. In the page to select the manufacturer and model of the printer, click on Have Disk.... In the "Install From Disk" window, click Browse and go to the directory containing the unzipped files (for example: c:\windows\win9xadb). Leaving the highlighted .inf file selected, Click OK. After clicking OK once more, a list printers will appear. In the left column select Xerox Tektronix, and in the right column select Phaser 600. In the next window, choose something appropriate for the name, such as "vcplt600".

When the Add Printer procedure is finished, you should select the printer icon you just made, then select "Properties" from the File menu. Change the paper size to something appropriate for the plotter: "Arch E - 36 x 44in" seems reasonable. Note that when you print from an application, you should also set your document to an appropriate size in the application. After you are sure the driver is working correctly, you can delete the original .exe file you downloaded.
