Mapping a Network Drive
If your computer is properly configured for access to the RCS network, you
can connect to the RCS server called sambasrv, which will make RCS files
and directories appear as an additional drive on your machine. You can choose
to map network drives to connect to your own RCS home space, or RCS public directories,
or both.
- First, be sure you have supplied your RCS userID and password in the Windows
login dialog box at Windows startup.
- To map a network drive, right click on the My Computer icon on the
desktop and select the Map Network Drive... option from the
menu that appears.
- The Map Network Drive window appears, prompting for the Drive and
Path of the desired disk resource. The drive letter will default to
the next available drive, but you may use any available drive letter.
In the Path field, type in the network path, as follows::
To connect to RCS public areas, type \\sambasrv\public.
To connect to your RCS home directory type \\sambasrv\userID
(substituting your own RCS userID for userID).
Do not select Reconnect at logon. Ensure the box is not checked,
or Windows startup performance could be severely affected.
Click OK.
- The system may prompt you to enter a password in order to connect to either
the public space or your RCS space. If so, enter your RCS password and click
on the OK button. For security's sake, do not select Save this password
in your password list.
Either your RCS home directory or the RCS public areas (whichever you chose)
will now be mapped to the drive specified.
