If you have a personal computer or non RCS UNIX workstation, you can point appropriate software to the RPI time service machines to keep your clock in synch with the Internet clock. Your computer must be connected to the Rensselaer network by Ethernet or SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol) or PPP (Point to Point Protocol).
The following machines run NTP (Network Time Protocol) version 2 servers:
No local documentation.
In the near future, ACS plans to run NTP version 3. When it's available, we will ask you to use the netserv machines (netserv1.its.rpi.edu through netserv2.its.rpi.edu) for time service.
Some software packages need accurate time on your machine to allow you to be permitted to use AFS.
