If you have a PC or non-RCS UNIX workstation connected to the RPI network via Ethernet or SLIP/PPP, you might want to make use of some services such as electronic mail or usenet. You need to specify certain server addresses in the appropriate software on your machine to do so.
Servers available are listed below:
Function Server Name IP Address
AFS Service aaron.its.rpi.edu 128.113.100.9
hannah.its.rpi.edu 128.113.100.24
azariah.its.rpi.edu 128.113.100.26
E-mail mail1.rpi.edu
Usenet usenet.rpi.edu
Domain Name Service netserv1.its.rpi.edu
netserv2.its.rpi.edu
netserv3.its.rpi.edu
netserv4.its.rpi.edu
netserv6.its.rpi.edu
Time Service aaron.its.rpi.edu
azariah.its.rpi.edu
hannah.its.rpi.edu
none
If you are connecting to Usenet directly via a SLIP or PPP connection, you cannot post to any newsgroups. We have no way to verify who you are (authenticate you) when you access Usenet this way, so the RPI Usenet server will not let you post.
To post an article to Usenet, log on to RCS with your RCS account and run Usenet from there.
