Description:

If you have a PC or non-RCS workstation connected to the RPI network via Ethernet or SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol) or PPP (Point to Point Protocol), you can read Usenet news directly from the Usenet news server.

Getting Started:

In the appropriate software program on your computer, specify the Usenet machine as usenet.rpi.edu.

Possible Problems and Solutions:

You cannot post to Usenet via a PC and SLIP or PPP connection. Our current system cannot verify who you are (authenticate you), so you cannot post. If you want to post to Usenet, you need to log on to RCS with your RCS account and run Usenet from there.
