If you have a new computer that you are having connected to the campus internet, you need to request a hostname and IP address.
Send e-mail to hostmaster@rpi.edu with the following information:
Name of person requesting the hostname:
Name of the primary user of the host:
Building and room number where the host is located:
Domain name the host is a member of:
Desired host name:
Type of machine and operating system:
Serial number of the host if known:
RPI property management tag number on the host if known:
Name of the system administrator if different from primary user:
Network subnet the host will be connected to:
In abbreviated form this would be:
Requestor:
Owner:
Location:
Domain:
Hostname:
Hardware/OS:
S/N:
Tag:
Admin:
Subnet:
none
Choose your own hostname, or the hostmaster will choose one for you. There is an RFC (Request for Comments) on how to choose a hostname that you might find useful.
