T22 Windows 2000 Installation-

Base install:

First power down the laptop with the CD drawer open, insert the Windows 2000 CD and power on.
Select the CLEAN install option.
Follow the install options keeping all of the defaults except the following:

Format drive C: to the FAT file system. If you choose the NTFS file system we cannot recover your data if Windows becomes unbootable.

When it asks for personal information, use the following:

Your name = your name
Company = RPI
Computer name = RCSuserid
Administrator password = (For this option you should select your own password. Make sure you remember this because you wil not be able to get into windows without it.

Verify the date and time.
When you get to the final screen remove the CD and select Finished.

Driver install:

1. Once windows has loaded, insert “Jake’s CD” and browse to /Windows 2000/video and run the setup program.

2. When it has finished reboot the computer. Leave “Jake’s CD” in the drive

3. When windows in finished loading right click on the desktop and go to properties.

4. Click the settings tab.

5. Switch the Screen Area to 1400x1050 and the colors to 16 or 24 Bit.

6. Click on OK.

7. Go to the Start menu and navigate to Settings – Control Panel

8. Double click on System.

9. Select the Hardware tab and then click on Device Manager (In the middle)

10. A few items should have a yellow circle with an exclamation point next to them. Double click on Ethernet Controller.

11. Select reinstall driver

12. Select the Search for a suitable driver option

13. Select the Specify a location option

14. Type D:\Windows 2000\Network in the location bar.

15. Select OK and let it finish the install.

16. If you are asked to reboot select no.

17. Back in the Device Manager double click on PCI serial port

18. Follow the above instructions.

19. When the installation is complete move on to Unknown Device in the Device Manager.

20. Again follow the procedure as above but replace the location (Step 14) with D:\Windows 2000\Power.

21. Going back to the Device Manager once more you should notice that all of the yellow exclamation points are gone. (If this is not true please ask for help)

22. Double click on Mice and other pointing devices

23. Double click on IBM PS/2 Trackpoint

24. Go to the driver tab and select update driver.

25. Once more follow the instructions as above, this time replacing the location (step 14) with D:\Windows 2000\Trackpoint

26. Reboot the computer

Installing System software:

1. Still using “Jake’s CD” open it and navigate to the Common folder. In each of the folders is a setup program. Run this to install the program. When in doubt, install it.

2. Switch to the T20 & 600E driver CD V1.11 (Ask a Consultant for the CD)

3. Again navigate to the Common folder and install all of the programs in the subdirectories with the setup program.

4. For the RCS file and Printer Sharing folder there is no setup program. Copy the files to your desktop and run the registry updater (The one with the blue cube in the corner). You can then delete the registry updater.

5. Install Service pack II and the Code red patches from CD (ask a consultant for the new CD.

6. If you would like to install the RPI dialup software ask a consultant for the disk and follow the instructions in the README file.

Your computer is now fully set up to run under windows 2000 and you may install any of the software that your computer came with for the helpdesk (Again ask for the disks).
