Help Desk Web Tool

Introduction

This site is intended to provide useful information to consultants in an easy-to-use and single location. Information contained in these pages may be relevant only to Help Desk consultants. Many of the tools, listed under "Restricted Tools", require special access. This access is granted to consultants for use ONLY at the Help Desk to serve the RPI computing community.
All users are encouraged to use these pages to help configure and solve problems on their own. The pages have been designed to allow simple step-by-step procedures to ease the setup of a machine or solving a problem.

Setups
Information about configuring systems for ResNet, Dial-up and Printing using Sambasrv.

Problem Solving
Step-by-Step procedures to find and solve problems related to Networking, Electronic Mail, Printing and RCS Accounts.

Downloadable software
SecureCRT, MapInfo, Dial-up scripts, etc...., Win98 PlainTextPassword file, WinNT PlainTextPassword file, Win2000 PlainTextPassword file......Software Available for Installation are software packages available for installation on individual computer systems.

RCS Account User Statistics
This web based tool provides access to much of the information available about a user's RCS account and resource usage.  For billable items such as
printing charges and disk space usage, totals are transferred to each student's Banner account.  This tool allows each user to display the detailed
figures on which these totals are based.  Use of this tool requires RCS authentication.

RCS Web Service Menu
Password change, email forwarding, page status, library passwords, and a bunch of other things that users will find quite useful.  Refer folks to it.  They will be prompted for their RCS userID and password.

Restricted Tools
These tools require special authorization granted only to staff and some Help Desk consultants.  They are powerful tools, and their usage is logged and is traceable.  Restricted tools should only be used by Help Desk staff during their work shift.
