President’s Science Adviser To Deliver Rensselaer Presidential Lecture Nov. 14

The Honorable John H. Marburger III, science adviser to President George W. Bush and director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), will deliver a lecture on “National Priorities in Science and Technology Policy” at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Nov 14. The 11 a.m. lecture will be held in the Heffner Alumni House, and is free and open to the public.

Rensselaer officials vowed to take the university’s case to preserve scholarships for hockey players to the full NCAA convention in January, after the NCAA Division III President’s Council declined to withdraw the proposal from a larger package of reforms during an Oct. 30 meeting.

The 310 Class of 2007 Rensselaer Medalists were honored at Convocation ceremonies Oct. 26. The Rensselaer Medal is awarded to the top math and science juniors at almost 3,000 high schools around the world. National Science Foundation Awards Rensselaer $3.86 Million To Fund Fellowships To Enhance Terahertz Research
Rensselaer has been awarded a $3.86 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to fund 15 fellowships to enhance interdisciplinary graduate study in terahertz (THz) science and technology as it relates to imaging, data transfer and networking systems, and electronics.

James Q. Crowe ’72, CEO of Level 3 Communications, was named the 2003 William F. Glaser ’53 Rensselaer Entrepreneur of the Year by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Crowe’s company, based outside Denver, Colo., is an international communications and information services with revenues of almost $4 billion.
