Community Service: Making a Difference in the Troy Community
Baroni staffs Troys Samaritan Hospital Sexual Assault and Crime Victims Assistance Programs 24-hour hotline for well beyond the required three times per month, 12-hour shifts. She also coordinated V-day activities in 2003, organizing a group of students to carry out sexual assault prevention programs. Her hundreds of hours of involvement were rewarded by the RAA with a grant of $1,000 to Samaritans sexual assault program. The RAA is committed to making a difference in the lives of current students and in the Troy community, says Dennis Powers 63, RAA president. We are thrilled to recognize Audra for her dedication to those same ideals. In addition to her volunteer work at the hospital, Baroni has been involved with the Red & White student organization, and has served as a Reunion Student Host Coordinator. These activities have given her the opportunity to interact with alumni, something she enjoys. So many famous people who have accomplished amazing feats went to the same school as I do! she says. Ive gotten such great advice from alumni, and they are truly inspiring to me. Its likely those alumni lucky enough to have met Baroni have taken inspiration from her, as well. If youre interested in meeting some of the amazing young men and women who are todays Rensselaer students, get involved with the programs offered by the RAA and the Office of Alumni Relations.
