Dog's Life
If its true that a year in a dogs life is seven times a humans, then The Pup would be mighty old this year.
The Pups debut in April 1924 offered some comic relief to the hard-working (and then all-male) students at Rensselaer. Filled with off-color (by todays standards) cartoons, jokes, stories, and photos, the publication satirized campus life, the administration, traditions, and much more. It was frequently at odds with Institute administration and Polytechnic editors.
Its motto in 1949 was To winnow the wheat from the chaff and print the chaff.
Although The Pup ceased publication in 1951, many alumni still look back fondly on its bawdy humor.
Other student humor publications that followed The Pup include The Bachelor (1952-71) and The Unicorn (1972-83).
