Looking Ahead
|
The
Rensselaer Alumni Association
Mission
The
Rensselaer Alumni Association serves and represents alumni and the
Institute by engaging and empowering all alumni as active and effective
partners in the Rensselaer community and by promoting the lifelong,
mutually beneficial pursuit of the aspirations shared by Rensselaer
and its alumni.
|
On June 5,
our first two-year term RAA president, Glenn Brown '54, handed over an
actively involved alumni association to new leader Jan Pirrong '69. Pirrong
has identified the following key challenges for the upcoming year:
- Provide
a financial base to increase support to alumni and campus initiatives.
- Continue
building the Rensselaer alumni network via affinity groups (based on
profession, common interest, ethnicity, and student activities) and
online services. Through both regional and virtual events including
chapter networking, national conferences, on-campus reunions, mentoring
programs, and career services, alumni will be able to develop value-added
business and career connections.
- Develop
lifelong learning opportunities for RPI alumni. The RAA Academic Relations
Committee is working with the Office of Professional and Distance Education
in developing continuing education programs available to Rensselaer
alumni via satellite, video-conferencing, remote classrooms, and the
Internet. This growing program provides a natural link to the ongoing
education needs of our technological alumni base.
- Grow the
alumni admissions program. Alumni will be recruited to serve as "regional
managers" who will partner with the admissions staff to train and place
fellow alumni at local college fairs.
The RAA has
accomplished much in the past year, and looks forward to growth and change
in the year 2000. We hope you will join us in changing the world and contributing
to the success of Rensselaer!
