We Will... We Will... We Will... This vow begins the more than 140 statements of intent in The Rensselaer Plan, the Institute’s blueprint for transformation. Both a vision and a promise, The Rensselaer Plan continues to guide the Institute as it moves boldly to take its place among the small group of research universities that will shape the 21st century.

Two and a half years after the plan was unanimously endorsed by the Rensselaer Board of Trustees on May 13, 2000, it is sparking unprecedented change and inspiring confidence and enthusiasm — both on campus and off — about the future of the Institute.

This special issue of Rensselaer magazine takes a look at how far the Institute has come in a few short years to realize the promise of the plan. Transformation is happening throughout the Rensselaer community — in its people, programs, and facilities—as Rensselaer moves closer to the goal of being a top-tier world-class research university with global reach and global impact.
