During July, Harry Steven 56 joined 300 others on an eight-day, 400-mile bicycle tour from Buffalo to Albany, along New Yorks Erie Canal. The ride was sponsored in part by the New York State Canal Corp. to promote the historic importance of the Erie Canal, which recently was named a National Heritage Corridor. Steven was the oldest person on the ride (80 years) and was accompanied by his daughter, Sue Steven, and her husband, Craig Blasingame. Rensselaers co-founder Amos Eaton, who took the Institutes first students on geological tours along the canal in the 1820s, would be proud. |
