|New H&SS Dean Named in 2002
John P. Harrington, former dean and professor of humanities at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, joined the Rensselaer faculty this fall to lead the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Harrington has written extensively on Irish literature and culture, and frequently lectures on theater and Irish culture in non-academic settings.
|Hooked on LEGOs
Secondary-level teachers from around the country who came to Rensselaer for a six-week summer course in 2002 learned to design and build electronic devices using LEGO MINDSTORM products to stimulate student interest in math, science, and engineering.
|Women in Engineering
A redesigned and revitalized Women in Engineering Mentoring Program was implemented by the School of Engineering in August 2001.
|Strength in Numbers
Rensselaer, Albany Medical Center and College, the Wadsworth Center of the New York State Department of Health, and the University at Albany have formed the Capital Region Biotechnology Research Consortium to significantly advance biotechnology research and promote economic development through industrial partnerships in the region. The coalition was announced at Rensselaer in June by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY).
