|A Great Place to Live
Recent campus improvements have greatly enhanced the quality of life at Rensselaer. For example, the Mueller Center, a state-of-the-art fitness and community center, opened in 2000 as did Barton Hall, a new 200-bed residence hall fully wired for laptop and data communication.
The Rensselaer Union has developed an extensive Web site as part of the Neighborhood Renewal Initiative to help students more effectively find decent, affordable housing off campus. Called A Guide to Living Off Campus, the site lists available apartments and rooms in Troy and the surrounding area.
Rensselaer has committed more than $2.5 million to neighborhood renewal plans. The funds include roughly $1 million for a reconstruction project on the south edge of campus that consists of repaving College Avenue and adding sidewalks, curbs, trees, streetlights, and crosswalks.
