President Jackson Named One of the "50 Most Important Women in Science" by Discover Magazine

President Shirley Ann Jackson has been named one of the "50 Most Important Women in Science" by Discover magazine. The women were chosen from across scientific disciplines for their groundbreaking scientific discoveries, their leadership, and their fearlessness in shattering the scientific glass ceiling. The November issue of Discover magazine is currently on newsstands. More

New CIE Director Named

Omkaram "Om" Nalamasu, an international expert in micro- and nanoelectronics, has been named director of Rensselaer's Center for Integrated Electronics (CIE). He will begin his tenure Oct. 23. More

Construction To Widen Campus Roadways

Within the next two weeks, Rensselaer will begin to expand various pedestrian walkways across campus to provide better access for emergency vehicles. The project, expected to be completed by Nov. 15, is mandated by the City of Troy Fire Department. More

Fair Promotes Public Interest Jobs — And Post-Graduation Survival Strategies

Rensselaer will host the Community Service & Public Interest Conference and Career Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 2 to 8 p.m. in the Alumni Sports & Recreation Center. The "alternative" career fair is designed for students seeking careers in the nonprofit and public interest sector. More

Rensselaer Researchers To Build New Device To Analyze Fission Fragments

Rensselaer will design a sophisticated detector to help scientists and engineers simulate accurately the performance of nuclear devices. Supported by a government grant of more than a half-million dollars, the design and development of the detector will be led by Assistant Professor Yaron Danon '90 and Professor Emeritus Robert Block of the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering. More

Obituary: Shubo Xu

Shubo Xu, clinical professor and director of the Sino-U.S. Management and Technology MBA Program at Rensselaer (SUMBA), died Oct. 12 of complications from lung cancer. Friends, colleagues, and students of the Lally School will hold a memorial service for Professor Xu on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel and Cultural Center. All are invited to attend. More


Student Life Forum Set for Oct. 23

Rensselaer's Student Senate has slated the first Student Life Forum of the year for Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. in the McNeil Room of the Rensselaer Union. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend. Coordinated by the Senate's Student Life Committee, the event will provide participants the opportunity to discuss parking, shuttle service, public safety, and residence hall matters with members of the President's Cabinet, the Student Senate, and Student Life.
