Rensselaer Ranked #2 Employer in the Capital Region
Rensselaer has been rated as the second best private-sector employer in the Capital Region, according to the Capital District Business Reviews annual ranking that appeared in the newspapers Oct. 17-23 issue.
Employers were ranked based in part on benefits including health coverage, education benefits, vacation and leave policies, retirement plans, and company fitness programs all of which Rensselaer offers.
Rensselaer continues to rank among the top 10 employers in the Capital Region, and we keep climbing up the ladder, said Curtis Powell, vice president for human resources at Rensselaer. We were listed ninth in 2001 and moved up to sixth last year. Now Rensselaer has made a monumental leap to second. This news is very exciting and serves as testament of the outstanding comprehensive benefit package offered to our faculty and staff.

The top 50 rankings in The List: Best Employers were compiled from approximately 80 surveys filled out by the larger private companies and institutions in the area. St. Peters Hospital topped the list in the annual CDBR rankings. This year, the Business Review tripled the number of survey questions, from eight to 30. Many of the new questions were open-ended to elicit more comprehensive responses. As a result, Rensselaer had a chance to showcase its many additional benefits, including an onsite fitness center, child-care services, and paid maternity and paternity leave.
The Capital Region is define by the Business Review as Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schoharie, Warren, Washington, Fulton, Montgomery, Columbia, and Greene counties.
