RAA to Honor Student's Community Service
The
Rensselaer Alumni Association will present Jessica Constantine
'03 with the RAA Community Service Award on Friday, Feb. 7, during
the first intermission of the Rensselaer vs. Harvard hockey game.
Constantine, a senior majoring in information
technology, is the first recipient of the new award. She is being
honored for her community service work benefiting low-income women
in the community of Troy. Through Rensselaer's Public Service
Internship, Constantine worked at the YWCA of Troy-Cohoes, where
she developed the Sally Catlin Resource Center. The center provides
quality self-help programs for women who seek to advance themselves
personally or professionally. During the summer of 2002, Constantine
traveled to Gabarone, Botswana, to start a similar program there.
The RAA Community Service Award was created in
2002 by the RAA Board of Trustees and is designed to recognize
a student who is involved with community service and philanthropic
activities in the local community. Honorees receive a plaque and
a $1,000 donation to the charity of their choice.
