When computers have to compare notes during a data-crunching networked simulation, the process can get bogged down. Rensselaer physicist Gyorgy Korniss has developed a method that allows neighboring computers to communicate better. Automating Brain Cell Research

Update on NLRB Investigation

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) will begin its investigation of the alleged unfair labor charges cited by Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 200 United on Feb. 5, 2003. Rensselaer’s administration has been in contact with the NLRB and is eager to cooperate fully with the NLRB investigation so that employees in this voting unit are permitted to vote without further delay. Update on Construction Union Picketing

A local construction union, Laborers Local 190 has been picketing Bast-Hatfield, a subcontractor hired by the Project's Construction Manager, McCarthy, on 15th Street near the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies. Rensselaer is working closely with McCarthy to ensure Institute employees can safely enter, exit, and conduct business effectively in and around the area. More

Snow Relief

Rensselaer is working with the City of Troy to provide parking relief when a snow emergency is declared. Students, faculty, and staff who would otherwise park on city streets will be able to park in the last four rows of the North Lot when Troy declares a snow emergency. Vehicles must display a Snow Emergency Permit, which can be obtained free of charge from Rensselaer's Parking Office during regular business hours. For more, go to Troy Record.

Out and About: Arts in Concert

  More than 100 people turned out to listen to Michael Century, arts department chair, and David Gibson, clinical associate professor of music, in concert Monday night at the Heffner Alumni House. Century, pianist, and Gibson, cellist, performed works by Capital Region composers Joel Chadabe and John J.A. Jannone, as well as J.S. Bach, Morton Feldman, and John Cage. The works by Chadabe and Jannone featured solo cello with computer-processed music and video. More Photos
