Class of 2007 To
Take Part in “Navigating Rensselaer & Beyond”
Aug. 17-24
Members of the Class of 2007 will have the
opportunity to get better acquainted with each other, with
Rensselaer, and with the surrounding community during “Navigating
Rensselaer & Beyond” Aug. 17-23 coordinated by
the Office of the First-Year Experience.
Now in its third year, the weeklong series of activities
is designed to encourage students to join with others who
share common interests. Events include a variety of cultural,
historical, and community services activities throughout
the Capital Region and beyond.
Students can, for example, stretch their
muscles at one of several outdoor adventures; join forces
with the staff of The Polytechnic to create a special
section covering the week’s activities; work with
fellow volunteers on a Habitat for Humanity home in the
community; or learn about how to turn an idea into a business
with other entrepreneurial-minded students.
On Friday, Aug. 22, President Jackson and
others will greet the students at the Approach on Eighth
Street, as they set off on a scavenger hunt that takes them
through downtown businesses and ends up at Monument Square
in Troy. Once downtown, they’ll be treated to a barbecue
dinner and welcome remarks from local officials. A “communiversity”
Welcome Fest—open to all—will be held at the
riverfront that evening.
