Radke Receives NSF CAREER Award

Richard Radke   Richard Radke, assistant professor of electrical, computer, and systems engineering at Rensselaer, has been awarded a Faculty Early Career Development Award (CAREER) from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Radke is among 22 Rensselaer faculty members who have received the award in the past four years. Radke will use the award to fund a graduate student to assist him in developing a new framework for “distributed computer vision.” More

Ghanaian Drum Master Yacub Addy to Perform With Wynton Marsalis

Ghanaian drum master, Troy resident, and Rensselaer music professor Yacub Addy and his band, Odadaa!, will perform two concerts with jazz composer and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis as part of the Jazz at Lincoln Center concert series. The two concerts, titled “African Jazz,” will take place May 2 and 3 at Columbia University’s Miller Theatre. More

Rensselaer to Launch “Space Month” with “Space Day” Activities May 1

Rensselaer has joined forces with the Junior Museum, Time Warner Cable, and A&E Television Networks to host a day of space-related activities for local youth on nationally recognized “Space Day,” May 1. The events will kick off “Space Month,” a program of exhibitions, workshops, contests, and discussions scheduled throughout May that are designed to boost kids’ interest in space, science, and technology. RAA Fellows Award: William Pomeroy ’66

William Pomeroy ’66 was presented the Rensselaer Alumni Association (RAA) Fellows Award by the Lally School of Management and Technology on Thursday, April 10, in the Russell Sage Dining Hall. The RAA Fellows Award was created in the fall of 1987 to honor those alumni or non-alumni of Rensselaer who, by their achievements in a chosen profession or endeavor or by their service to the Institute, have set an example for Rensselaer men and women to emulate. RAA Fellows Award: James Collins '77

James Collins ’77 will be recognized with the Rensselaer Alumni Association (RAA) Fellows Award from the School of Architecture on Monday, April 28, when Collins visits campus for the School of Architecture Advisory Council activities. Collins received a bachelor’s in building science from Rensselaer in 1977, a bachelor’s of architecture degree in 1978, and a master’s in management in 1978, all from Rensselaer. More

Student Elections

Grand Marshal Week 2003 concluded April 11 with the election of Rensselaer’s highest student government officers—the Grand Marshal and President of the Union. Mike Borzumate, a graduate student in management, was named Grand Marshal, and Suzanne Peluso, a junior in information technology, was named President of the Union. Helping Hands: Community Service Day

Rensselaer held its fifth annual Community Service Day April 16. More than 115 volunteers, representing staff, faculty, and students, participated at eight different sites around Troy and the surrounding area. Work ranged from general cleanup in Prospect Park, Grafton Park, and Oakwood Cemetery, to painting and cleanup at the Junior Museum, to Habitat for Humanity projects in Cohoes and Albany.
