IT Concentration: Building Science

For those entering the program Fall 2006 semester & beyond

Contact Person: Mark Mistur

Description:
The architecture concentration is designed to familiarize and equip IT graduates interested in the world of design, construction and project delivery. It is framed to provide broad exposure to the history and thinking of architecture, including its’ place in society and culture, and specifically addresses how information technologies are becoming increasingly instrumental in revolutionizing design techniques, delivery, and the architectural product itself.

Courses include design studios, history/theory courses, and a general exposure to structural and environmental technologies. A capstone design course requiring students to relate information technology to the way architects see, sort, design, visualize, or simulate what they do is required.

Architecture as a concentration is designed as a preparation for entry into:

  • The design side of the construction industry, with particular skill sets that relate to the empowering and execution of design practices. It does not lead to an accredited architecture degree and unlike the Barch or March will not (on it’s own) lead to architecture license.

  • A first professional master’s degree at Rensselaer or at other accredited institutions. It is designed to provide both a broad background in architecture and advanced information technology skill sets.
