Why did you choose to enroll at Rensselaer?
I was always interested in a Master’s degree in IT and RPI just turned out to be best fit. The flexibility in the course-structure allowed me to design the degree as per my need. Also, the degree gave me precisely what I wanted, great learning opportunities and a well-rounded professional skillset.
What are some benefits of being part of the Graduate Community at Rensselaer?
I would say personally for me it was the multi-cultured environment was the best part about the graduate community. You get new perspectives by interacting with people from around the globe, which help you in the long run. Also, RPI has a very close and well-knit alumni community always willing to help.
What would you tell a prospective student about choosing Rensselaer?
I would say that look for something that you are really passionate about and if you feel that Rensselaer would provide you with that or would help you in accomplishing it, then by all means go for it. Even though, I haven’t been at RPI for a very long time, I believe it has already helped me a lot and I can assure you if you do decide to choose Rensselaer it would certainly be a fruitful endeavor.
Describe your graduate project and its purpose/applications?
For my graduate project, I worked with Data Communiqué in a four-member team for the development of a library which would help the company in automated document processing. This was a very interesting project and one of my first industrial projects.
What are your plans following graduation?
Following graduation, I intend to work in the industry and work in the software development field. I will be joining Cisco Systems Feb ’14 as a Software Engineer. I hope that the knowledge and the skills that I have gained from RPI will help me in the future.
What are your hobbies/interests/special talents?
I like reading fiction. My favorite author is Brandon Sanderson. As for something unconventional, I have come to like Cubing, mainly due to RPI’s cubing club. I have gotten pretty good at it and can now solve a Rubik’s cube in under a minute.
List Information about your background and accomplishments in College and Work Experience
At RPI I was a Teaching Assistant in ECSE and Biology department. It was a really interesting experience to work from a different perspective and helped me think to not look from just from an IT viewpoint. I also worked at Cisco Systems for my internship. It was a really good experience and also my first in the professional world.
