To the IT Class of 2009,

Hello again. As all of you know my name is Matthew Grill and I am your current Freshman Representative for the IT Student Leadership Council. Being part of the Leadership Council has been a great experience this year and I am very happy and proud that I was able to hold this position for this year. I feel that this is an important position and it is my wish to continue to hold this position for the sophomore year.

As part of the IT Student Leadership Council it has been my goal to serve the IT Class of 2009 with dignity and commitment. I have acted as the crucial link between students and students and also students and faculty. I have been available to accept students’ questions that they may have about the IT department. I have also acted as a means to provide students with a way to voice comments and concerns to the faculty of the IT department to bring about appropriate answers and explanations. The overall tone of my representation has been to be a representative that is striving for answers and important and necessary change. With the IT department being a new and interdisciplinary program, it can only grow and change for the better if this type of representative structure is in place. Along these lines, a successful program depends on the students who make the program. To build a comradery and civil society among the IT students, I have helped to plan, execute, and participate in two “IT Movie Nights” in an effort to bring the IT program closer together. For those students in attendance, it was a fun and exciting time to meet and mingle with one another building trust and friendship along the way. Furthermore, I have had the opportunity to represent the IT Department at all of Rensselaer’s celebrations. I have had the honor to meet with perspective students from future classes who were interested in the IT Department here at Rensselaer. Spending these selected Saturdays as an IT Representative was both fulfilling and rewarding as I was able to share my experience with potential students, experiences that so many past IT students did for me while I was on my college search. All of these events and actions were done for the students by a student. It has been my pleasure to be the student at the heart of the process for the Class of 2009.

As this year draws to a close it is time to once again think about the future. You will be asked to vote for a Sophomore Class Representative – a representative who will be the face and the voice of the IT Class of 2009. I have enjoyed my time as Freshman Representative and wish to continue on this journey and become the Sophomore Representative for the Class of 2009. I feel that I have served my fellow classmates well but understand that my actions may not have been perfect. I am part of the representative system and wish to continue to grow as an individual in this program – always there for students and always willing to adapt and change to strive for perfection. In this coming election I ask for your vote and I hope that whatever decision is made, only the best will come to the IT program and more importantly, the IT Class of 2009. Thank you.

Having some experience during my high school time as a committee member of a fewclubs and societies, I think I can contribute something to the IT Student Leadership Council. As a student in the IT department and having taken a few of IT courses, I am experienced enough with the environment that we as the IT student have to face every semester. Thus, I can assure you that if I were given a chance to hold the position, I I would try my best to assist any of you if there are any problems regarding any issues and I would also try to used the opportunity as a committee member to voice out your opinions and needs to the administration. Other than that, I am also experienced in organizing events such as carnivals and fund raising which would make me a suitable candidate if you are looking for fun activities and programs held by the IT department for the next coming year.

I hope that you would give me a chance to make a difference and constructing a new fun experience as a sophomore in the IT department. Thank your for your consideration and your time. Have a great day and good luck for your finals.
