Laurie Ahrens
Research Technician
Since 2003, Laurie Ahrens has been a Research Technician/Laboratory Technician at the Darrin Fresh Water Institute, an environmental research division of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She has a B.S. in Biology from James Madison University, and has been in the environmental laboratory field since 1989.
Laurie has headed up the Lay Monitoring program at DFWI for the past 8 years. She has been an integral part of the Lake George Offshore Monitoring program, as well as the AEAP Project. In 2004, she earned her Open Water SCUBA certification in order to better contribute to the Lake George Tributary Survey, and has assisted in plant identification for various other lake surveys. Currently Laurie is updating the DFWI herbarium database. In addition to helping with coliform analyses, Laurie performs analyses for nutrients utilizing UV/Vis spectrophotometer, chlorophyll on fluorometer, anions by chromatography, and metals/cations on the atomic absorption spectrophotometer, about which she is particularly excited!
