About the Water Quality Maps of Lake George
The Lake George Water Quality maps utilize SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) to view high resolution interactive GIS maps in a web browser. Maps on this page use a combination of vector data and raster images to portray roads, cities, water features, sampling sites, water quality results, satellite imagery and other physical features.
Using SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) to View Maps in a Web Browser
Before the maps can be viewed, a small SVG plug-in file will need to be installed in your web browser. At this time only Internet Explorer 4.01 or higher is fully supported. Users of Netscape Navigator and Communicator will only have minimal accessibility to the SVG features.

To install the SVG plug-in, click on the "Download SVG Viewer" button below and choose "Open" to start the download and installation. After download of the 2MB file, installation will proceed automatically. Once complete, select on the map links above to view a map.

Please note that while the maps have been designed to work with various web download speeds, it will take a few moments for the entire map composition to compile and for all the layers to be visible after download. The moderate and high bandwidth maps have a Landsat satellite image of Lake George as the base layer and will take a little longer to complete.

Please be patient. A full set of help instructions are included with each map and can be accessed by clicking on the "?" at the lower-right corner of the map. If the maps seem to be performing slow, right-click in the map window and uncheck the option for "Highest quality."
