CFES is working on developing advanced fuel cell components and systems through design, synthesis and engineering of novel materials. RPI researchers are also involved in the manufacturing and system design of electrode assemblies.
A fuel cell is an electrochemical device that converts a supplied fuel (hydrogen, methanol) into electricity and heat. Fuel cells are viewed as potential candidates for power plants and auxiliary power modules, and for mobile power (cars, buses, and portable power units for laptops and cell phones).
