the Rensselaer
entrepreneurship plan
For more than 175 years, Rensselaer has exhibited a unique strength in its ability to translate scientific discoveries into practical application, a process that we refer to as technological entrepreneurship. One of the goals of The Rensselaer Plan is to infuse understanding and encouragement of entrepreneurship through all schools and programs.
Robert Chernow, Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship at Rensselaer, has taken up this challenge to create a culture of entrepreneurship across campus and throughout the Rensselaer community. The Rensselaer Entrepreneurship Plan encompasses every aspect of the Rensselaer experience, involving curriculum, research, practical experience, diversity, and outreach.
Specifically, the program will work toward the following goals:
Infrastructure - Create the campus infrastructure and metrics to provide ongoing support and measurement of the program;
Curriculum - Assist students, faculty, and staff to think in more innovative and creative ways within each discipline by modifying or expanding the curriculum as appropriate.
Connectivity - Create seamless connections across schools to unleash the energy and talent of its diverse faculty and students, including the development of a new Master’s degree in innovation and technological entrepreneurship;
Research - Expand the Institute’s research activity in technological entrepreneurship and the management of innovation;
Experience - Provide more student and faculty opportunities for hands-on learning, development of practical experience, and assistance in starting/growing enterprises;
Diversity - Develop initiatives to encourage more diversity in technological entrepreneurship, especially among women, minorities, and international students;
Outreach - Expand both formal and informal programs outside the classroom to promote, support, and reinforce entrepreneurship among students, faculty, staff and alumni.
