ExxonMobil Contributes Over $150,000 in Matching Gifts

On May 15, 2008, the ExxonMobil Foundation presented a gift of $150,937 to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Rensselaer alumni and friends associated with ExxonMobil maximized their contribution to Rensselaer through the Foundation’s generous Educational Matching Gift Program.

"For more than forty years, ExxonMobil and its employees have demonstrated their commitment to institutions of higher education through our Matching Gifts Program," said T.J. Wojnar, Senior Vice President for ExxonMobil Chemical. "Each year, the generosity of our employees has enabled hundreds of universities across the nation to enhance their educational programs to achieve new levels of excellence. We are honored to continue our support of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute."

“Rensselaer and ExxonMobil are two great institutions with a long, rich history and a commitment to excellence," said David Luecke ’85, Exxon Plant Manager, Baton Rouge Plastics Plant. "In keeping with Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson’s call to action on ‘The Quiet Crisis’, the ExxonMobil Foundation is helping to impact the nation’s growing need to produce more engineers and scientists inside and outside of the classroom. We are proud of our employees and annuitants who have chosen to give to Rensselaer, and are thankful for the generous Educational Matching Gift Program. The success of our program is a direct reflection of the value our employees place on education.”

Initiated in 1962, the ExxonMobil Foundation’s Educational Matching Gift Program matches gifts to higher education on a 3-to-1 basic and has provided more than $347 million to higher education in the United States.

The ExxonMobil Foundation has contributed over $1 million in support of Renaissance at Rensselaer: The Campaign for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. This current gift total represents matching gifts to Rensselaer made by ExxonMobil employees and retirees that were eligible for the ExxonMobil Foundation Educational Matching Gift Program in 2007.
